Writers Workshop

Current Résumé

Your résumé should include all published writing experience, comics related and beyond. If you are a team, two individual résumés should be uploaded.

Short Composition

A short composition is no longer than the space provided, which is equivalent to about a page, double-spaced and in size 12 font, or 2000 characters (with spaces). It should tell us why you want to be a DC comic book writer and how your background will add a unique perspective to our publishing portfolio. If you are a team, please submit one composition that talks about you as a team.

Published Writing Samples

Applicants must submit one or two published writing samples. Comic book work is preferred, but we will also accept any published fiction writing that will highlight your skills as a possible DC writer. Before applying, please review all of the guidelines below.

COMIC BOOKS
For all comic book samples, you must upload the final PDF of at least the first few pages or chapter of the finished, published comic with art and lettering. We cannot under any circumstances accept comic book scripts; even scripts of published comics cannot be read or accepted.

If the file is too large, you must upload the first few pages or chapter and provide a link to a file share or Dropbox with the completed file you’d like us to review.

Self-published comics printed or published on a personal website or blog will be accepted and do not require an ISBN number.

NOVELS/SHORT FICTION
We will accept works of fiction published in a book, magazine or professional literary journal.

Self-published long-form prose can only be accepted if you’ve published on Amazon or another venue that generates an ISBN number.

SCREENPLAYS
Screenplays are the only scripts we will accept. However, you must also upload a link to a video file or webpage to prove the script was produced.

VIDEO GAMES
You do not need to upload a script or PDF. Please provide a link of a playthrough on YouTube or elsewhere.

DON’Ts
Do not send us DC character fan fiction.
Do not submit nonfiction or poetry. It’s highly unlikely that we’d be able to judge your ability to write comic books based on your nonfiction work or poems.
Do not send us samples in a language other than English.
Do not send us pitches.
Proposals for comics using DC characters or unpublished scripts MUST NOT BE SUBMITTED AND WILL NOT BE READ OR ACCEPTED.

Submission Agreement

We must receive this in order to read your submission. Make sure both your signature(s) and all required information are at the bottom. The agreement must be uploaded to your application before the deadline. Faxes and e-mails of this document will not be accepted. Please take into account the time it will take to submit your submission agreement when applying.
