I was trying to finish my application one hour before it closed, and the files didn’t go through. Can I PLEASE get an extension?
Just remember, folks, technical difficulties are a real thing. And files are large – sometimes too large. We recommend not waiting until the last day/hour/minute/second to submit. Mainly because – no, sorry – we can’t extend the deadline. Even if it’s a technical difficulty that bounced you that wasn’t technically your fault, you’ve still missed the deadline. Remember to allow yourself enough time to make sure everything gets uploaded properly — that’s as much a part of the application process as your samples! And remember – there’s always next year.
Is there ANY circumstance that would allow me to have an extension on the submission deadline?
No. To be fair to everyone who submits, extensions will not be granted.
What if I left information off my application; can I go back and change it or do I need to resubmit from the start?
If you saved for later, use your login and password up until 11:59 pm PST on March 1 to enter back into your submission. If you submitted your application, you cannot make any changes.
Why can’t I find the submission agreement on my profile?
The submission agreement can be downloaded on the final page of the application process. Click the link that says “download” underneath the Signed Agreement section.
I’ve registered but have not received the activation e-mail. What do I do?
First, check your spam folder. If you still don’t have it, send an e-mail to [email protected] with the subject “No Activation E-mail” and we’ll solve the issue ASAP.
I can’t upload a file. What do I do?
Try using a different web browser. We recommend Safari.
Can I get feedback on my portfolio?
Due to the expected high volume of applications, we cannot give individual feedback on every portfolio. We will, however, be sending notifications to everyone at the end of the review process around the end of April.
May I submit a recommendation from an industry professional? I thought you had that as a requirement last year.
No – it wasn’t a requirement, and we’ve removed the OPTIONAL recommendation letter from the application. Some industry professionals were inundated by requests, sometimes from people they didn’t know and whose work they couldn’t speak to. Also, we discovered, once both sets of workshop candidates were selected, that fewer than HALF of them had recommendations. So it didn’t really matter to us. Your work will speak for itself! HOWEVER, there’s nothing stopping you from putting references of industry professionals who truly know you, your character and your work at the bottom of your résumé.
Do I get paid to be in the Workshop?
No. The endgame for the Workshop is to get you hired on one of our comics.
Is it okay if I have representation?
Can my representation submit my material for me?
Can international applicants apply to the Workshop?
Yes, but to be accepted into the program, you must have a passport, or visa, if necessary, that allows you to travel to the U.S. We do not sponsor visas. And you must be fluent in English.
Can Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment employees apply to the Workshop?
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment employees are not eligible to apply.
What if I’ve drawn for DC in the past? Can I submit the pages that were published for DC?
Yes! If you have had less than 5 comics published by DC, you’re eligible to apply. However, updating us on your newest work could be most beneficial to you.
If I live near Burbank, can I drop off my portfolio in person?
All portfolios must be submitted through the website. Portfolios that are mailed in or dropped off will not be accepted.
How many portfolios can I submit?
Can I submit my portfolio as a colorist, inker or cover artist?
The current program is designed for pencillers. We will not accept an application if you are exclusively a colorist, inker or cover artist. Only sequential storytellers will be admitted to the program. If you submit just cover art or pinups, you’ll be wasting your time and ours.
Can I resubmit work I submitted last year?
If it didn’t get you in the first time, submit at your own risk.
If there is a problem with the website while I’m submitting, or if I have a question that isn’t answered here, what do I do?
Visit our Contact Us page and fill out the form. Please note, this inbox is only monitored during business hours, Monday through Friday 9 am – 6 pm PST.
